R.A. Bailey (Pty) Ltd is a proudly Botswana company rooted in Palapye, with trading origins that go back to the late 1890s. For more than a century the R.A. Bailey name has served generations of customers in and around Palapye and the Central District; earning a reputation for reliability, fair dealing and community-minded service that has stood the test of time. Independent research on Palapye’s commercial history consistently notes the R.A. Bailey store among the town’s earliest and longest-running businesses.
Today, we continue that tradition with a practical, no-nonsense range designed for life in Botswana: outdoor and camping essentials, licensed arms and ammunition, durable clothing and workwear, tools and hardware, fasteners, and secure locks, keys and safes. Our offering reflects what our customers actually use, on farms, at worksites, on the road, and out in the bush ;backed by staff who know the products because they use them too.
Our ethos is simple: do right by the customer, every time. Integrity guides how we buy and how we sell; trust is something we earn with each transaction; and fairness means transparent pricing, dependable stock and honest advice. From our long-standing Palapye base historically located near the railway and Old Main Road, we’ve served communities such as Rakops and Letlhakane, growing alongside the region’s people and industries while keeping our feet firmly on the ground.
Looking ahead, our strategic vision is to remain relevant in every community we serve ;growing with our customers while upholding the standard that made the Bailey name a fixture in Palapye’s story. That means staying practical, keeping quality front and centre, and continuing to be the store you can send a neighbour to with confidence just as people have done here for over a hundred years.
Legacy Focus
Our story begins with these walls. From the first Bailey store that opened its doors, we have grown with Palapye and beyond; adapting to the times, yet holding onto the same values of service, trust, and quality. These pictures are a reminder of where we started and the community that has carried us forward.
